In spring of 2019 a local Kingsville family headed to the beach to enjoy time together. Little did they know that on the way home a reckless driver would cut their fun family day short. After the family left the beach that Sunday afternoon and were headed home, they encountered the driver at an intersection on 6th Street in Kingsville.

The driver, going the opposite direction, suddenly turned in front of the family causing the two vehicles to collide. Their vehicle was totaled.

Fortunately, the father and two-year-old son were not harmed in the accident. However, the mother, Raquel, suffered a painful ankle injury. She had a ruptured anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL). Healing her ankle would require visits to multiple medical specialists and even surgery.

Raquel’s daily life was disrupted by the injury. It was difficult for her to care for her young son, she couldn’t drive anywhere, and working in the local bakery that her family owned was next to impossible.

All of this could have been avoided if the driver of the other vehicle hadn’t made the careless decision to pull out in front of Raquel and her family that day. So, Raquel decided to pursue a lawsuit in hopes of recovering some of damages from the injury.

Even though her injury seems minor compared to more tragic situations that we hear about, it still impacted her livelihood and her family. And the medical bills were piling up. Raquel just wanted to get her life back.

She hired a personal injury attorney to help her with her case and ultimately, she won a fair settlement and was able to afford her surgery.

Raquel was wise to seek the help of an experienced attorney. She could have tried negotiating with the at-fault driver’s insurance company herself. But there is a very good chance that she would not have received a full and fair settlement.

Insurance companies negotiate with accident victims all the time. And they know how to make deals that benefit them more than you. Sometimes they even make it sound like you are getting a fair deal, but in reality, you’re not.

Experienced injury attorneys are very familiar with the tricks and schemes that the insurance companies play. And they fight to get you the money you deserve. In most cases, you can find a lawyer to represent you for no money up front.
